Major Incident Declared In London Bridge After Stabbing, Reports Of Gunshots
The Metropolitan Police said they responded to reports of a stabbing in the British capital around 2PM local time. A man has been detained and several people were injured, police said.
“At this stage, the circumstances relating to the incident at #LondonBridge remain unclear. However, as a precaution, we are currently responding to this incident as though it is terror-related,” the Met tweeted. The London Ambulance Service said it was a “major incident” and a number of crews were attending the scene in London Bridge, where the Thames River crossing has been placed on lockdown.
There are videos circulating on social media appearing to show a scuffle on London Bridge itself involving a number of people and the apparent sound of a gun being fired. BBC reporter John McManus was on the scene as the incident unfolded. He said their “appeared to be a fight going on” with one man being attacked by others. Police arrived and “a number of shots were fired at this man,” McManus said.
