Major 2023 developments and plans that could transform Lancaster and Morecambe
Morecambe and Lancaster are seeing various projects and developments at key venues and locations, aiming to enhance the district’s tourism, arts and entertainment scene for residents and visitors.
Looking ahead, the Victorian-era venue hopes for success later in 2023 with a £3million Levelling-Up bid to the Westminster government. The Winter Gardens Levelling-Up bid is being considered in a different round of applications to the higher=profile Eden North application for £50million, which is expected to be decided soon.
In recent times, the historic venue was named among several buildings and conservation areas across the Lancaster district as being an ‘at risk’ by Historic England. However, the trust reportedly doubled the number of visitors and income this year . And the city council also approved a pedicab rickshaw-type licence for leisure tours along the promenade, between The Midland Hotel and Whinnysty Lane in Heysham.
Visitors to the city centre recently will have already seen a number of new restaurants and cafés opening in areas such as Market Street, for example. The pandemic lock-down era probably delayed some of this redevelopment work but swift change can now be seen in numerous locations.
