It's KENS 5 night at Poteet Strawberry Festival with tickets discounted to $10
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Children often dream about what they will be when they grow up: a rock star, an astronaut or a firefighter, but many don't make plans for how they will get there. Maite was one of the 19 students who was killed during the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde on May 24, 2022.
The 10-year-old had a passion for sea life, and wanted TAMU-CC to be a part of her journey in becoming a marine biologist. In a great example of beauty coming from tragedy, the Island University found out about Maite's dream and reached out to her mother, Ana, to set up a scholarship in her daughter's honor. Just four days after the horrific loss, a seed of hope was planted and the Maite Yuleana Rodriguez Memorial Scholarship was created to benefit students with dreams from Uvalde, just like the young girl for whom it is named.
