Justin Karcher, 23, was enjoying his night at Schemengees Bar & Grille in Lewiston on Wednesday when a gunman opened fire, hitting him four times and leaving him in critical condition, his mother told The Washington Post. Jessica Karcher said her son — who is from Auburn, Maine — underwent emergency surgery and is on a ventilator. Doctors “have to keep resuscitating him,” she said, adding: “He’s not out of the woods.
” Wednesday’s shooting was a fresh tragedy for the Karcher family, but not its first. In July 2019, Justin witnessed a man fatally gun down his father, Jean Donald Fournier, in a Walmart parking lot. “His father passed away in front of him,” she said. Jessica Karcher said she plans to visit her son in the intensive care unit Thursday morning.
