An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 shook Southcentral and Southwest Alaska just before 11 a.m. Wednesday and was widely felt in Anchorage. The quake was centered about 100 miles southwest of Anchorage.

The earthquake was centered in the remote Chigmit Mountains near the Mount Iliamna volcano on the west side of Cook Inlet. It was about 125 miles southwest of Anchorage and 42 miles east of Port Alsworth, the nearest community, at a depth of about 90 miles, according to theThere were no immediate reports of damage.
