You’ve definitely seen it on Instagram.
The themes might be the biggest draw, but the experience of the Madonna Inn isn’t just the room. The pool, overlooking the mountains, has bright pink umbrellas and a zero entry, and feels like an oasis, especially with a signature “pink cloud” frozen drink in hand. After lounging by the pool for a while, we had dinner in the Gold Rush Steakhouse, sitting in one of the round pink booths while watching people ballroom dance at the other end of the dining room.
If I had been able to, I would have spent the whole next day at the hotel, too, lingering at the counter in the coffee shop, relaxing in the spa, lounging by the pool … but we had a whole road trip in front of us, and Big Sur was beckoning.If you’re staying for a quick overnight, I wouldn’t recommend splurging on one of the suites. You’ll be plenty comfortable in one of the economy rooms.
Nostalgia is in the very fabric of the place — literally, as the carpets are specially designed by the Madonnas in Phyllis’s signature rose pattern — but rather than being an echo of the past, it’s a living thing at the hotel. It taps into a time when a stay there was the most fashionable vacation possible, a destination for honeymoons and celebrities.
