French President Emmanuel Macron accused the U.S. Supreme Court of"undermin[ing]" the rights of women through its decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Abortion is a fundamental right for all women. It must be protected. I wish to express my solidarity with the women whose liberties are being undermined by the Supreme Court of the United States. French lawmakers voted to legalize abortion in 1975, two years after the U.S. Supreme Court declared abortion access to be a constitutional right. A majority of Republican appointees rejected that ruling as an invention of a constitutional right that short-circuited legislative debates about how to structure abortion laws, though Chief Justice John Roberts only concurred in part.
Macron opposed the revision of French law on the grounds that abortions later in pregnancy are"more traumatizing" for the women involved."Extended time limits are not neutral in terms of a woman’s trauma,” he said last year.CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER
