. MAC is now taking that support a step further, with the donation of $1.5 million to UNICEF. According to the beauty brand, the grant will be used to help expand and enhance HIV prevention and treatment programs around the world.
Aïda Moudachirou-Rébois, MAC's global chief marketing officer, addressed the donation in a statement tosaying, “While great strides have been made in the global fight against HIV/AIDS, our work is far from over. AIDS remains the leading cause of death of women of reproductive age and adolescent girls represented over 77 percent of all new HIV infections in 2020.
Founded in 1994, MAC VIVA GLAM has partnered with some of the biggest names in Hollywood and beauty on special-edition products that give the entirety of proceeds to charity. Celebs like Ariana Grande, , and Miley Cyrus have appeared in VIVA GLAM campaigns in the past. Since 2003, MAC has given a dedicated $15 million to support UNICEF’s efforts.Moudachirou-Rébois touched on the VIVA GLAM history, noting that it was “created in 1994, at the height of the AIDS epidemic, as a response to the epidemic directly affecting our community.” She added, “Everything we did was bold and disruptive which is exactly what was needed to have people pay attention and raise money for HIV/AIDS.
