Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick says casino bill doesn't have the votes to pass

in Texas, and the biggest gaming companies in America donated to the campaigns of Abbott, Patrick and House Speaker Dade Phelan in a bid to improve their odds.The Texas Constitution prohibits expanded gambling, meaning the Legislature would need to put the issue to a vote of the public. But to do that, they need a two-thirds majority in both the Senate and House to get a bill passed. That means getting 21 votes out of the 31-member Texas Senate.

"I'm not letting the Democrats run the Senate because if you have more Democrats voting for a bill than Republicans... that means they're running the show," he told Hasty.
