Lowndes County Sheriff Chris West says the murder of former Sheriff John “Big John” Williams never should have happened.
Monday as William Chase John son goes on trial in the shooting death of former Lowndes County Sheriff John “ Big John ” Williams .
“When you don’t fund law enforcement, and there’s no one in law enforcement available, these are the things that happen,” West said. “Why in the hell was a sheriff even out there that night? That should have been something for a deputy or a patrol officer, not a sheriff.” Whatever the answer, Lowndes County is still healing from the unexpected loss of a role model to so many.
