San Antonio Brahmas head coach Hines Ward coaches against Houston Roughnecks in the fourth quarter of a XFL football game at TDECU Stadium on March 5, 2023 in Houston, TX. Houston won 22 to 13.With San Antonio ranking near the bottom of the XFL in offense as the season’s midpoint approaches, coach Hines Ward felt a sense of urgency this week to make wholesale changes in search of a spark.

Jack Coan is the only quarterback to take a snap for the Brahmas this year, picking up 625 yards through the air on 58 percent completions with five touchdowns and two interceptions. Speaking to the media Tuesday in the slot reserved for the team’s starting quarterback, Coan responded to a question on whether he’d talked to the coaches about a possible quarterback change by saying, “that’s something you’d have to ask Hines.”

He spent most of his career as an NFL tight ends coach, first with the Minnesota Vikings from 2006 through 2013 and then with the New York Jets from 2015 through 2018.
