Like the other major events at the Stampede, the champion’s cut is a cool $50,000, although it’s slated only for one day — that’s Wednesday along with team roping — as part of the Rocky Mountain Cup in the Nutrien Western Event Centre . With $150,000 on the line, the Rocky Mountain Cup is Canada’s single richest day of roping.

The older Whiteside sister is making her second visit to Stampede after competing in 2019 and hoping to make Showdown Sunday with this appearance. It followed her sixth-place trip of 17.9s on Monday to start Pool B action, which was good enough for a $1,000 payday.“It’s always fun to be here, honestly … like I have a blast being here,” said Kylie, who’s also a breakaway roper and — away from the arena — an equine dentist. “There’s literally no other rodeo that compares to running down the alley at this one. It’s close to home. It’s like a hometown rodeo, as well.
