Speaking with Mobius at a key moment in Loki season 2 episode 2, the trickster god recounts the events of the 2012 movie The Avengers...and seemingly admitted that it wasn't the best idea.
Like he said, in The Avengers Loki commanded an army of Chitauri and brainwashed humans to open a portal and prepare the planet for invasion .
