Following an investigation, Calgary police have charged Derek Scott Reimer, 36, of Calgary, in relation to what they are labelling a hate-motivated crime. He is facing one count of causing a disturbance and one count of mischief.
The charges were issued on a long-form summons and each offence carries a penalty of up to $10,000 and, in default of payment, up to six months in prison, the city said in a news release.last spring to prohibit insulting behaviour toward anyone due to age, race, sexual orientation, disability, gender identity or gender expression.Article content
Police tagging an incident as hate-motivated doesn’t result in additional charges, but the evidence is considered by the courts after a person is found guilty.
