Artemis IIA local astronomer and Chief Science Communications Officer for the James Webb and Hubble Telescope, Bethany Downer, says a lot has changed over the last 50 years.
Downer says a huge reason is to ensure humans are capable of travelling to the moon ahead of plans to send humans to Mars. She says technology has changed drastically and by proving humans are capable of such an expedition, it could indicate a future of humans having a full-time presence on the moon.
Downer says while the Artemis II mission be important for NASA, it will also have a huge impact on a new generation.yet as it features the first woman and person of colour. She says it’s important to have astronauts from different backgrounds represented on these missions to inspire those on Earth.
