, the crystal flute — which is described as “exquisite” — was made for Madison in 1813 by Claude Laurent of Paris in honor of his second inauguration. Aside from its striking crystal body, the flute also features a silver joint that is engraved with the President’s name, title, and the year it was made., the Library of Congress has the largest collection of flutes in the world, with over 1,800 items archived.
