Roommates: not a luxury, but often a necessity, especially for young people leaving home for the first time.
In fact, she says, living with someone who you don't have a preexisting friendship with someone prior to moving in together, it might be both easier and wiser. "A friend and I had sent in our applications for residence together so that we could ensure that we would live together and not have to live with strangers."“It was a shared accommodation with two single beds in the same room and essentially no privacy," she said.“This was a very positive experience because it allowed me to learn about another culture and attend events at the university that I wouldn’t have otherwise,” she explained.
Clear communication from the start is important. It’s crucial to have expectations and boundaries in place before moving in with someone, she said. The 52-year-old from Sydney River, N.S. said her first experience living with a roommate occurred when she was just 24 years old.
