House Republicans start over on the search for the next speaker of the House after Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) was ousted last week. Eight candidates are competing in the latest round.
Republicans who emerged from the closed-door candidate forum for speaker hopefuls Monday night seemed increasingly tired of the infighting. Some of the lawmakers who blocked Rep. Jim Jordan from the speakership last week, including Reps. Marcus J.
Molinaro and Pete Stauber , said they could vote for any of the eight candidates on the floor if they win the nomination. Others were more cautious. Rep. Nick LaLota , who voted against Jordan on the floor three times and who represents a swing district, said that some of the Republicans running for speaker, “in their voting records, their stances, their public statements, more align with my district than others.
