Six dead after shooter opened fire at a Walmart in Chesapeake, Va., police say
An assailant opened fire late Tuesday at a Walmart in the Tidewater area of Virginia, leaving several people dead and injured, authorities said.
Chesapeake Police told The Washington Post early Wednesday that 6 people were killed in the attack, and the shooter had also died. It remains unclear how many people were in the store at the time of the incident, which came less than two days before Thanksgiving. Walmart said on Twitter early Wednesday that it was working closely with law enforcement and “focused on supporting our associates.”At least five people who were injured at the scene are being treated at the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.Chesapeake is a city in Virginia’s Hampton Roads/Tidewater area, about 200 miles southeast of Washington.
