With a win against the Rams Sunday at SoFi Stadium, they’ll make their way into the playoffs. With a loss, their fate is in the hands of the Atlanta Falcons, who play the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon. If the Saints and Rams win, New Orleans leaps the Niners for the NFC’s one remaining playoff spot.
While the 49ers have beaten the Rams in each of the last five games between the teams, Los Angeles is favored in the season finale as the NFC West leaders. Trey Lance may make a second straight start for the Niners under center in place of Jimmy Garoppolo, who’s nursing a torn ligament and chipped bone in his thumb. Garoppolo threw in practice this week, but said he felt significant pain when doing so.
