In Yorkshire there is a reservoir, one that is enjoyed by winter walkers and cyclists alike, found in the heart of the Yorkshire countryside.
The reservoir is accessible and "open" to the public if you fancy a little walk surrounded by industrial history. for the walkers, anglers and wildlife. It is situated in the charming Washburn valley, sharing an embankment with Swinsty Reservoir. Thanks to permitted tracks in the surrounding woodlands, cyclists and horse riders can make use of the area and not interfere with those on a walk or run.
The reservoir was built under the management of Robert Brooks and consultants Thomas Hawksley of Westminster and Edward Filliter of Leeds. Work began on the site in 1874 and five years later it was completed.
