The Detroit Lions tried to keep Jarrad Davis last spring, but were 'priced out' of the market when he signed with the New York Jets for $5.5 million.
The Lions never made the playoffs and posted three last-place finishes in the NFC North with Davis on their roster, and he never evolved into the every-down linebacker the Lions thought they were getting coming out of Florida.
Davis missed eight games with the Jets last season because of ankle injuries and played a rotational role upon his return. He hit the market again this spring without much fanfare and"It feels brand new, honestly," Davis said in a news conference to announce the signing."It’s amazing like how life works. Like, you step away from something or you step away from a thing and you feel like, you don’t know what’s going to happen after that.
Holmes said he had"a lot of transparent discussions" with Davis before free agency last year and that Davis"really liked what we were doing.
