Lionel Richie played a sold-out arena in Atlantic City Friday Night
slated for November — Richie brought the hits to New Jersey’s Sin City facsimile Friday night, one of only a small handful of east coast dates .
Before “Endless Love,” one of the best-selling duets of all time, Richie hyped up the crowd, noting how he’d waited 37 years for Diana Ross to come out and sing it with him on stage as he beckoned to the wings — only to announce tonight was not the night. Ross was not there. As the audience playfully jeered, he quipped: “It’s funny how a crowd can get hostile on you right away.”
Per usual, a cluster of Commodores tunes were worked in to fill out the set’s middle, with Richie mocking cancel culture, saying how lawyers were in his dressing room and police were waiting backstage saying he could no longer call a woman “a ‘Brick House.’” Lionel Richie performs at the Mark G.
