Lincoln council leader warns about the migrant camp's impact on the city
The leader of the City of Lincoln council has warned of a “critical effect” on already overstretched public services if plans to house asylum seekers at RAF Scampton go ahead.
Councillor Ric Metcalfe, Leader of City of Lincoln Council, said council bosses were “extremely concerned” over a lack of consultation and “ongoing uncertainty” around the plans. “Housing in particular, both temporary and more longer-term, would likely be overwhelmed by those whose asylum is granted.”He said city leaders were happy to “play our part” helping families in need and already worked with many from Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine.
Council and community leaders have hit out at the lack of information and clarity from the Home Office ahead of any decisions being made as well as raised concerns over the impact on local infrastructure.
