The meeting was set after Google blocked news stories from appearing in some people’s searches in response to the government’s Bill C\u002D18.

The Online News Act would require Google and Facebook parent company Meta to reach commercial deals with publishers. Postmedia, publisher of the National Post, is in favour of the legislation, which is currently in front of the Senate.

Bittle asked the company to expedite the production of those documents. “We may be needing to speak to the law clerk about further actions involving Google, because this has been wholly unacceptable,” he said.
