Women are women, not people who are pregnant or people who menstruate. Let\u0027s not erase women from our language.
We are getting used to the flashpoints of the culture wars that inevitably spring up around issues surrounding sexuality or gender. The teacher in Oakville declaring themselves trans and then showing up with ridiculously large prosthetic breasts. The athlete who is bigger, stronger, obviously a biological male and yet competing against smaller women in athletics. Those flashpoints generate headlines and outrage on both sides of the issue as people argue.
The concept of using phrases like people who menstruate, people who give birth or chestfeeding has quickly moved from the academic world towards the mainstream. The term people who menstruate has been used several times in our own Parliament including earlier this year as the Liberal government promoted their push to end “period poverty.”Article contentA century ago, women in this country were still fighting for the full right to vote.
Now, with the battle unfinished, women are being asked to surrender in favour of men who identify as women. They are being asked to not discuss that basics of biology belong to their gender and pretend that it is all fluid, that gender doesn’t matter. I have no idea how far this push to redefine everything will go but I am sure of one thing, women will not fare well in this, so they better speak up now before it’s too late.
