When the Wynne government allowed grocery stores to begin selling beer in 2015, they required that the LCBO be the wholesaler of record. The grocers order their product from The Beer Store, or the individual brewers and it is delivered by The Beer Stores, but the LCBO charges an additional $6.04 in fees on a case of 24 355-millilitre cans.Article content

Grocers have complained that between the tax and the strict requirements on pricing, they are left with a profit margin of 2%-3%. That means when someone purchases beer at their stores using a credit card, they actually lose money.
