Lewis Hamilton brands new Formula 1 rule change ‘dangerous’ and ‘pointless’
Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton has branded a new Formula 1 rule change ‘dangerous’ and ‘pointless’ as testing continues in Bahrain.
The new season begins on March 5 and ahead of a tyre warmer ban in 2024, laws have been tweaked for the 2023 campaign.This year, teams will be allowed to heat the tyres before using them but only for a two-hour window.argues that having no blanket at all in 2024 will not only put drivers at risk but cause them to use more fuel getting the tyres warm out on track.“I’ve tested the no blankets, and there is going to be an incident at some stage.
“Also, you have to drive multiple laps to get the tyres to work. The whole argument is that taking away the blankets is going to be more sustainable and more green, but in actual fact we just use more fuel to get the temperature into the tyres. “But more concerning is just when you go out, the car is skating around and it’s very twitchy. If someone else is on tyres that are working, you could easily collide with them. So, it is a pointless exercise.”Hamilton and Mercedes have had ups and downs in testing but appear to be on track to improve on last season’s performance
