Readers hope the Jan. 6 committee does its job; praise Rep. Liz Cheney for standing up to Trumpism; and criticize the Texas governor for his handling of the COVID crisis.

This article names the Jan. 6 riots as “the worst attack on the Capitol in two centuries,” and it was. If you did not witness this criminal event on live or recorded TV, you must have been in a hole somewhere. The U.S. House committee’s findings will be extensive, including, I trust, identifying those planning this insurrection.

Then came the Charlottesville violence of 2017. The “ship” took a severe “hit.” Your words, said and unsaid, allowed your enemies to severely damage your credibility. But you survived The Capitol violence was the lethal “hit” on ship MAGA. Mr. President, you were the “skipper,” and your presence was needed. The crowd should have seen you preventing the unlawful entry and heard your voice saying, “You’ll enter over my dead body.”
