We can no longer afford to view this country or community from our own experiences. I retired in 2004. My retirement has lost 36.9% of its buying power, going from $43,300 in 2004 dollars to $27,340 in 2023 dollars. If it had kept up with inflation it would be $68,576. It isn’t. Gov. Greg Abbott is wasting his time and the Legislature’s time over this non-issue. Abbott should instead spend his time on improving the state’s foster care system and just chill when it comes to the culture wars.
Some members of Congress have been trying for years to either eliminate or privatize these programs. If we want to look at “entitlement” programs, let’s look at congressional wages and benefits that they vote for themselves. Also, let’s look at the cost of Congressional staffs which are determined by Congress. And, there are also many committees with expenses and staffs that may not be necessary. Let Congress look at their own “entitlements” before cutting ours.I see that Rep.
