Readers don’t support teaching the Bible in public schools; ask for respect for trans people; want divisiveness on all political sides to end; and question a council member’s motives.Left to right, Hope Wright, Megan Manning, and Meadow Thomas, from St.

The concerns raised about Donald Trump’s presidency — such as undermining democratic norms, pushing propaganda and threatening political enemies — are serious and merit discussion. However, such behaviors are not unique to Trump or the Republican Party. Prominent Democrats, including Kamala Harris and Joe Biden, have also contributed to polarization and eroded trust in institutions.

If we are to preserve our freedoms, we must apply these criticisms consistently. Democracy requires accountability on all sides, not partisan cherry-picking.
