Government advertising, hit-and-run bicycle damage and praise for good service round out letter topics
Watch onIn 2020, the P.E.I. government passed the Government Advertising Standards Act that sets strict guidelines for how the government can spend taxpayer dollars on advertising. The law is very specific on how funds can and can’t be spent on government advertising. In effect, the law prevents the use of government funds by government officials for political reasons, rather than for the furtherance of government operations and to benefit taxpayers.
Government officials have frequently transgressed this law since it came into force. Almost every time I open a news publication in P.E.I., I see advertising by the government that disregards the law. The only recourse I have is to bring this matter to the public’s attention and to ask Premier Dennis King to explain why he feels it’s OK for his government to transgress a law that is designed to prevent historic abuses of public funds.
Premier King should let the public know when his government will start complying with this law or if provincial laws have become mere suggestions for how we are to operate. Respecting and following the law is a fundamental principle of civic responsibility and social order.
I only hope that you will read this and choose to restore the karmic balance by doing something nice to someone – and better do it soon, before someone else does, as you did to us, something bad to you.I would to extend a quick note of appreciation to two young gentlemen at Take 5 Oil Change on University Avenue in Charlottetown.
Unfortunately, I find it unusual these days to receive this kind of knowledgeable, friendly service from garages and other services without gouging you for whatever they can get.SaltWire Network welcomes letters on matters of public interest for publication.
