Re: New World View Poses Danger to Free Speech (Morton) and To be ‘woke’ is to recognize injustice. Is that so bad? (Ghitter), Opinion, March 4

In fact, schools are held accountable by the school trustees elected by the public every four years. Additionally, schools are held accountable by the provincial government, which is also elected regularly by the public. This ensures more transparency and accountability in public education than in any other government agency.Non-profit seniors care deserves praise

The chart on page 61 shows for-profit operators in Calgary and Edmonton supplied 44 per cent of the beds, but accounted for 52 per cent of resident COVID cases and 50 per cent of deaths. Non-profit operators in the two cities had 36 per cent of the beds, 34 per cent of COVID cases and 33 per cent of deaths.

Should you choose a facility based on its ownership alone? AHS considered for-profit ownership a risk factor, but the auditor general left unsaid whether fewer deaths and less suffering could have been possible if non-profits ran more of Alberta’s continuing-care facilities. Too often we overlook the potential benefits non-profits could bring to our health-care system. We’d all be better off with non-profits having a bigger role and voice in this important sector.
