Re: EDITORIAL: High immigration fuels housing shortage, online edition, Aug. 12
Kudos for disputing Justin Trudeau’s claim that the affordable housing crisis is not his problem. Now get this, Immigration Minister Marc Miller stated a few days ago that we need immigrants to build houses. This an obviously an attempt to justify bringing in 500,000 immigrants annually in spite of the housing and health-care crises. What an insult to highly skilled Canadian tradespeople.
Obviously, Trudeau will do or say anything to justify his mass immigration quotas. Exactly how many carpenters, electricians, plumbers, brick layers, etc., are in the 500,000 annual intake? Will this massive influx of trades people depress the salaries of those in these trades already here? Surely Canada is capable of training young Canadians in the trades as needed and should not have to import them.
If there is actually a labour shortage in certain trades, Trudeau has had eight long years to get sufficient Canadians trained to alleviate it. Trudeau was recently deflecting and denying any responsibility for the current affordable housing crisis, even though his mass immigration is exacerbating it.
