An Arlington Heights letter to the editor: In reading the headlines in Sunday's Daily Herald, I wondered if this was a prelude to getting us ready for more taxes in Illinois.
In reading the headlines in Sunday's Daily Herald, I wondered if this was a prelude to getting us ready for more taxes in Illinois.
Politicians are always looking for more tax revenues to increase government spending and ways to increase taxes. They never look for ways to decrease taxes or balance the state budget instead. The taxing of services would have a devastating effect both on generally small businesses and the people they serve. Taxing services will put a burden on businesses because they will have to hire an accountant or spend more time to deal with the bureaucratic procedures.this means they will have additional expenses and will need to pay for these by reducing personnel or by raising their prices to compensate for them.
For the people that purchase these services, they will have to make a choice. Will they have to go to the hair salon once a month or every other month or not at all? Will you have your lawn done every week or every other week or not at all? This would not only be a decrease in business but a decrease in revenue and a decrease in taxes.
Mr. Martire said,"We are leaving out too much of the economic base by not taxing consumer services which is continually a portion of the economy." Well, there isn't a tax increase Mr. Martire doesn't like. He pushed for Gov. Pritzker's Fair Tax referendum among others. Mr. Martire's organization is not a bipartisan organization but is heavily tied to public sector unions and left-leaning foundations; look it up.
