The New York attorney general's office has been distributing settlement funds from electronic cigarette-maker Juul Labs Inc.

New York Attorney General Letitia James has distributed about half of the settlement funds the state received from electronic cigarette-maker Juul Labs Inc.Last year, the company agreed to pay $462 million to New York, California, Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Mexico and Washington, D.C., to settle claims that it unlawfully marketed its addictive products to minors and contributed to a youth vaping epidemic.New York will receive $112.

'Juul preyed on young people across our state by putting addictive products into their hands and convincing them that they were harmless,' James said in a statement on Tuesday. 'Their actions put a generation of children at risk, fueling physical and mental health problems among young New Yorkers.'She added that the historic settlement means local leaders will have the funds 'to invest in anti-vaping efforts to curb the youth vaping epidemic.
