CLEVELAND, Ohio -- When the producers of “Les Miserables” were looking for a city to relaunch the North American tour of the iconic musical, they decided on a place where the show has been 11 times before.“Being the first city to put this blockbuster musical back on the road is a testament to the passion, dedication and size of our Broadway audiences in Cleveland,” says Playhouse Square President and CEO Gina Vernaci.
“It’s the story, it’s the music. It’s a show that really touches people’s hearts, especially after what the world has gone through over the last couple of years with this pandemic,” says Cartell. “If there is a show that truly speaks to this kind of survival of the human spirit, it’s Les Miz.” “You see characters that are fighting for a better world and audiences connect with that,” Cartell says. “It’s so thrilling to see a younger cast really embrace this musical and take it on and fill it with their own emotions and their own feelings.”
“Haley Dortch, who is our Fantine, her rendition of ‘Dreamed a Dream’ is simply stunning,” Cartell says. “Preston Boyd singing ‘Stars’ as our Inspector Javert is one of those true moments in musical theater that will make you stop breathing for a second.”
