After last year’s second-place finish, LEE’s Austin Hartmangruber seeks UIL wrestling state title
“I’ve changed my whole wrestling,” Hartmangruber said. “I picked up on things I need to do. I’ve changed my stance. Now, I’m always attacking. I don’t like being on defense anymore.”
When asked how his new approached as worked out, Hartmangruber replied, “I’m still undefeated … I remember losing in my finals match and I didn’t like how that felt. I hadn’t lost in a long time. I want to be the best, so I told myself, ‘No more losing.’ My whole mindset has changed. Everything felt great after that.”
After breezing to district and regional championship his freshman year, Hartmangruber learned a harsh lesson about state-level competition.“It was an eye-opener,” Hartmangruber said. “I thought I was going to walk in and pretty much dominate. It didn’t go like that, so bad I didn’t make it to Day 2.”“He learned the hard way that it wasn’t going to be a breeze,” Sosa said. “From then on, he’s learned and applied it, learned and applied it. This year is a culmination of everything he’s learned.
