John Gruden, no relation to the football coach, has a lot of hockey knowledge to share in his new job coaching the Toronto Marlies.

We can also confirm that Albin Sundin, a free agent Swedish defenceman at this camp, is no relation to Mats Sundin, the Toronto franchise leading scorer.

That would be Ronnie Sundin, briefly a New York Ranger 25 years ago, more well-known at home with the Frolunda club for 16 years of service. The six-foot undrafted Albin was promoted to dad’s old team last year for 10 games as an 18-year-old, where the Leafs spied him and sent an invite. Albin has never met Mats, but shares the hometown of Kungsbacka near Gothenburg with former Leaf Calle Johansson, who once taught him at a youth hockey clinic. And just to add to the unusual lineup optics, Sundin is wearing countryman Rasmus Sandin’s old No. 38 at camp.

“I wish the public could see what happens at these camps, I feel myself developing every day,” Kitchener-born Kressler said. The 5-foot-9 forward took that momentum back to the OHL Flint Firebirds last year and parlayed it into 25 goals.Article content
