Sign Up Today Skylar Celeste Boone A legal team representing a child who was reportedly assaulted at the Laurel Oaks Behavioral Center has filed a lawsuit against the Dothan mental health clinic.
“You have a clear pattern of failure to protect the children in this facility. One sexual assault is a tragedy and a responsible company would do everything in its power to make sure it never happened again. What we have here, the third sexual incident that the public is aware of, is evidence that this is not a responsible company,” said Pensacola-based attorney Caleb Cunningham.
The victim’s legal team believe the assault demonstrates systemic issues “plaguing” these types of facilities. Universal Health Services is a Fortune 500 company that operates many similar facilities across the United States. The lawsuit also points out that in 2014, an older patient was charged with felony counts of first-degree sodomy and in 2011, an adult employed with the facility was convicted of sexually assaulting that patient.
