A 'bunch of misfits in a field' started the annual event
Mercury-nominated singer Laura Mvula and award-winning comedian Milton Jones have been confirmed as part of the line up for this year's Greenbelt Festival. The four-day festival in Kettering is celebrating its 50th event this August bank holiday with a host of speakers, thinkers, and performers.
This year's festival, running from Thursday August 24 to Sunday August 27, is set to follow the same mould, with acts coming from as far as Ukraine and the likes of Bridgerton star Adjoa Andoh delivering talks on Fair Trade. Greenbelt’s "radical" pay-what-you-can model mean that 4-day weekend tickets start from £150.The festival of activism, music and spoken word has an interesting history. The first Greenbelt was reviewed by The Sun as ‘The Nice People’s Pop Festival’.
Greenbelt's 50th event line-up includes double MOBO Award-winning Laura Mvula as the headliner for Saturday night. Paul said: "we cannot wait to bring her back to Greenbelt, a festival she’s been to before as a festivalgoer, but is now returning to as a headliner.” The 'Prince of Puns', Milton Jones is also announced for the Theatre Stage, as well as ‘Attenborough’ “as you’ve never heard him before”. Speakers at the event include economist Ann Pettifor, writer and campaigner Jack Monroe, musician Brian Eno, and former Archbishop of York, John Sentamu.
