Fox Corp. dinged by Dominion settlement in third quarterFox Corp. moved to a loss in its fiscal third quarter, weighed down by Fox News’ nearly $800 million settlement with Dominion Voting Systems. The company said Tuesday that the difference in its performance was mostly due to charges related to legal settlement costs at Fox News Media. The company still topped Wall Street expectations. Fox News agreed to pay Dominion to avert a trial in the voting machine company’s lawsuit that would have exposed how the network promoted lies about the 2020 presidential election. Dominion sued Fox for $1.6 billion, arguing that the top-rated news outlet damaged the company’s reputation.

Lachlan Murdoch explains settlement, says no change at FoxLachlan Murdoch says Fox paid $787 million to settle a lawsuit on its reporting to avoid a divisive trial and lengthy appeals process. The Fox Corp. chief executive also says a Delaware judge “severely limited” Fox's defenses against claims by Dominion Voting Systems, which he still believes in. Fox Corp. reported $50 million in losses last quarter, primarily because of the settlement. In a call with financial analysts, Murdoch said viewers and investors to expect no change in the network's programming strategy. He didn't mention the name of Tucker Carlson, Fox's most popular host, fired two weeks ago for reasons the company hasn't explained.
