We chat with author Laura Dave & screenwriter Josh Singer about adapting Dave’s New York Times bestselling novel, TheLastThingHeToldMe, into a limited series for AppleTVPlus starring Jennifer Garner and Nkolaj Coster-Waldau:
Apple TV+ is set to debut its latest thriller series in The Last Thing He Told Me, which premieres Friday, April 14th. The series is based on a novel of the same name by Laura Dave, which shot to the top of the New York Times bestseller list when it was released in 2021. The series centers around a woman named Hannah and her stepdaughter Bailey who try to discover what happened to Hannah’s husband Owen after he goes missing.
Laura Dave: I worked on this book for so long that I didn't even think I was going be able to finish the book. I started in 2011, and I put it down, and picked it up; it had so many iterations. I wrote two other novels in the midst of it, and then finally came back to it in 2018. So, not only did I not imagine it for the screen, there were times when I [was] like, "It's never, ever going to see the light of day.
It had this incredible mystery, but also had this incredible emotional wisdom that I think is unique to Laura and all of her books.
