Watch laumemusic's visualizer for 'Spells (Oedipusi)'
frontwoman Kim Pflaum – is hitting the high seas with some buoyant vibes to get you through the week. Her "Spells " visualizer, premiering below, shows a colorful coterie of nautical animations popping in and out of the sea as laid-back synths and a gently funky bass line propel the song forward.
"I filmed this long handheld shot of the ocean in Greece on my smartphone and these people kept popping in and out of frame, snorkelers, boats and the like. I started thinking of what they could represent," Pflaum explains. "They gave me the idea to animate these symbolic things popping in out of the ocean to both forewarn you and keep you company while you listen to the track."for her Madeira project, which also featured her filming at the ocean.
"Laumė isn’t really a stylistic change from Madeira, rather an expansion of possibility. Laumė gives me room to be anything. It is like my mythical, fantastical, creative side; a part of me rather than just another project," she says, noting that this song in particular touches on "a mixture of ideas around love, the femme fatale, Greek myth, Freudian theory, human nature and the like.
If all that sounds like a lot to cram into a three-minute synth-pop song, well, rest assured, her creative endeavors aren't confined to music. "I’m writing quite a bit at the moment, trying to rework a novel and some short stories, so I’m actually listening to mostly classical and chillwave/chillhop. Ravel and Rachmaninoff are my current classical crushes. Classical music has a way of stirring magic inside of me other music just can’t. Also it seems to reset my anxiety-prone brainwaves," she says. "Chill type artists I’ve been listening to a lot of include Mt.
