Cypress Springs extended its winning streak to six games.
Cypress Springs coach Taneisha Rogers told her squad down the stretch that they needed to go on a run to put away Cypress Ranch. Down one possession, the Panthers did exactly that in the battle of Fry Rd.
Cypress Springs and Cypress Ranch , the No. 23 ranked team in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ latest UIL girls rankings, are now tied for first place in District 16-6A at 8-1. Jaeda Larry’s 3-point play, her only points of the game, put Cypress Ranch on top 32-30 early in the fourth quarter. That’s the last time the Mustangs scored. Di'Aunestie Henderson’s four straight points started Cypress Springs’ run before Larsyn Catalon-Boldon, Ayla McDowell, Melanie Hodges and Zamari Reece got in on the scoring, ultimately extending the Panthers’ lead to 13 points.
Cypress Ranch led 13-9 after a quarter of play. Each team scored once midway through the second quarter. Moments later, McDowell’s back-to-back layups brought the Panthers within one, but a Chelsy Singleton free throw gave the Mustangs an 18-16 halftime lead.
