Officials in Kentucky say the nation's last stockpiles of a deadly chemical agent have been safely eliminated.

Candace Coyle, the plant’s project manager, said Wednesday the nation’s entire stockpile of VX nerve agent “is now completely destroyed.” “After more than a half century of chemical weapons storage in central Kentucky, the final chapter at Blue Grass Army Depot will soon begin,” said Col. Stephen Dorris, commander of the depot in central Kentucky, where the plant is located.
