The Last Of Us' Joel voice actor, Troy Baker, shares his unexpected response regarding the show's various changes to elements from the games. Based on the PlayStation video games from Naughty Dog, HBO's take on The Last Of Us comes from co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the latter of whom co-created the original game.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In a recent interview with Variety following his appearance as James in The Last of Us episode 8, Baker shares his thoughts regarding some of the changes the show has made to parts of the games. Taking no issue with the changes, the actor reveals that the show has actually allowed him to appreciate the story of Joel and Ellie in new ways.
“For someone who has spent as much time with this franchise as I have, there’s something in every episode where I learned something new. Now most of the way through season 1, it's fair to say that HBO's The Last of Us has been a masterclass in terms of how to adapt a hit video game. While staying true to many characters, set pieces, and plot lines from the games, the show also hasn't been afraid to branch out. One of the first major changes that the show made was to Joel and Ellie, at least in terms of their appearances.
Another big change that HBO's The Last of Us made comes in episode 3, with the story between Bill and Frank . While Bill's relationship with Frank is largely recounted through dialogue and environmental storytelling, the show opts to more fully explore these two characters, depicting the beginning, middle, and end of their relationship in an emotional and truly affecting hour of television.
