Film and soundtrack out August 18th.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Landscape With Invisible Hand is a unique alien film that centers its story on two clashing families in a post-alien invasion world. The movie is based on a novel of the same name by award-winning author M.T. Anderson, which was first published in 2017; the film first premiered in January 2023 at the Sundance Film Festival.
To musically match the quirky yet emotional nature of the film’s story, Finley turned to esteemed film composer Michael Abels. Abels has touched on the subject of alien invasions before, as he previously scored Jordan Peele’s 2022 film Nope. Screen Rant is excited to premiere a selection of Abels’ work on Landscape With Invisible Hand titled “A History of the Near Future”. Check it out below:
Listen to Landscape With Invisible Hand—Original Motion Picture Score on August 18 Landscape With Invisible Hand’s inventive premise sets it apart from even the best alien invasion movies, and Michael Abels’ score is just as unique as the project itself. “A History of the Near Future” is different from Abels’ previous film scores, utilizing avant-garde harmony and striking instrumentation to create a sense of the unknown.
Michael Abels: ‘Quirky’ only begins to describe this score, unique among my work. From the outset, director Cory Finley wanted the theremin to be a featured instrument, and M.T. Anderson, author of the original novella Landscape With Invisible Hand, mentioned the ‘sad recorder consort’ as one of his favorite elements. Add to those choices a pipe organ, vintage synths, strings, piano and an odd assortment of percussion.
