It's been a successful night for Labour
Labour has comfortably held onto its parliamentary seat for Stretford and Urmston after voters went to the polls for a by-election. Andrew Western will represent the constituency after securing 69.4% of the vote, meaning the party has increased its share of the vote.
But the former shadow cabinet member resigned her seat after taking on a new role as deputy mayor for Greater Manchester, with her new responsibility for policing meaning she could not take on both roles. Mr Western, who has served as leader of Trafford Council since May 2018, retained the seat for Labour.
