In a ‘historic’ trip, a delegation of L.A. officials get face time with D.C. leaders to address city’s top priorities.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, City Council President Paul Krekorian, seen in this April 2023 photo, are in Washington, D.C., this week with five other councilmembers in a rare trip to advocate for the city’s priorities with federal officials and members of Congress. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and six city councilmembers kicked off their first full day in Washington, D.C., on Monday, Oct. 16, as part of a trip this week to meet with White House officials and members of Congress.
Blumenfield, in a phone interview part way through Monday, described the meetings with White House officials as “productive.” “This delegation continues that momentum,” Bass said. “I thank my partners on the City Council for joining me on this trip to amplify the voice of Angelenos on the national scale. Together, we will continue to deliver change for Los Angeles.”
Blumenfield said he could not recall a delegation like this from L.A. ever traveling to D.C. “A trip like this is unique,” Blumenfield said. “It certainly shows the unity between the executive and legislative branch.” The delegation met Monday with the ambassador of Armenia to the U.S., arranged by City Council President Paul Krekorian. The group also met with U.S. Department of Transportation officials, including Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
L.A. city officials will also meet with U.S. Sen. Alex Padilla, who is from L.A., and other members of Congress.
